Tried it out on Rat-L-Trap's frame.
Shines it up pretty good.
The problem is that my compressor will only spin it for a minute before the pressure in the tank is so low that it slows down enough that it is not useful.
It might take me awhile but I plan on cleaning and painting the entire frame and whatever else I can. I learn by taking things apart.

I love to shine things with the wire wheel/brush. You get that instant gratification of seeing the rust being swept away with some sparks while the metal shines through. Lovely. Going to brush the whole frame?
Problem is that you have to take care of that immediately or it'll look rusty right away. But it shines real nice for like a week.

What does one do after wire brushing? A simple flat black paint? I'm asking because this is something I might try on some of my car which lived a large chunk of its life in Michigan.

I plan to do the whole frame and as much of the suspension bits as is feasible. Some of the suspension bits will get replace.

Not sure myself I'd like an answer to this. POR-15 is an option and I would certainly do that to a car that'd see rain and/or snow. As my truck has no roof I don't think that'll happen. POR-15 would be overkill probably in my situation.

How big is your compressor? Might need MOAR POWAR!

This is what you need if you're tired of waiting for the compressor to build up pressure. I've played around with both setups quite a lot, and I find that even though the screwdriver might not be quite as effective as the compressor it is a much more pleasant experience to work with. Partly because of it being a lot quieter and the fact that you don't have to wait for it to build of pressure every other minute, as you say.

I'm absolutely certain that this is the problem. This is my compressor.
So far this is the only thing I've asked of it that it can't do well. But I've really only used it to paint, and shoot brads.

I'll try it out in my drill and see how it works out. The die grinder spins quite a bit faster than my drill.

You need wire wheels for a 4" or 4.5" angle grinder, not something off your compressor unless it has serious stones. You probably should have a 4" angle grinder anyway, so think of it in those terms.

I think what CalzoneGolem said. Some sort of rust-preventing paint, like POR or some kind of powder coating, something to withstand time.
I used to brush metal mostly on our agricultural appliances like the plow and other things that used to get full of dirt in every possible corner, making it difficult to work on when doing maintenance.
If paint was needed to prevent further rust, we usually put on some tractor paint. Ford blue to match our New Holland tractors.

Always wear eye protection with those bastards. I've never had a close call per se, however I often find wires lodged in my hands/arms/chest.

Yeah I also don't want chunks of rust embedded in my eyeballs

I recommend this guy. $30 at Lowes. Sure it's loud and clunky, but I've abused it for 3 years, and it's still going strong. So I bought 2 more. Now with 3, I don't have to change between grinding, wire, and cutoff wheels!

Thanks, I'll look into this. $30 for 3 + years of abuse seems good value to me.

Por-15 or Miracle Paint. Similar products but I prefer the Miracle Paint because it's thicker and doesn't run as much. http://mercedessource.com/node/6197 I get it from these guys.

What does the finish look like? Shiny or matte?
Agrajag

It is incredibly shiny, but it should be top coated with a regular paint. Especially if its in an area where sunlight will reach it as uv is the only thing it is weak against. I used some in my engine bay and just left the way it is since it is never exposed.

Ah, well since the frame is pretty well exposed I should probably paint it as well.

Yeah good idea. It's another annoying step but will pay off for sure. The stuff eventually fades and starts to peel if left in the sun.

I really wouldn't want it glossy anyways. Probably spray it a satin black.
